Although tuition in Germany is free for undergraduate level at a State university, students need to pay tuition fees if they want to proceed to Master or PhD level. Here are 9 scholarships from various agencies, be it government, non government and Organsisasi.

Government Scholarships

Every year the German government has allocated a number of scholarships for international students interested in studying in Germany.

  • DAAD Scholarships

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers the most numerous government-funded scholarships.

  • Erasmus +

International students from Europe can sign up for Erasmus + grant. Funded by the European Commission, Erasmus + offers funding for living expenses as it follows the exchange of students in European countries. Germany is one of the most popular destinations for students who sign up for Erasmus.

Non-Governmental scholarships

There are a number of non-governmental scholarships available to international students. Usually given based on academic achievement excellence.

  • Heinrich Boll Scholarships for international students

The scholarship was organised by the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Domestic and international students can apply for this scholarship, either for undergraduate, Master’s or PhD. There are two admission waves a year.

  • Stipendium Deutschland

International students who excel may be eligible for a scholarship of €300 funding per month. Depending on public-private cooperation, between business, organization and individual sponsors, talented students can get funding starting from €150 per month approved by the government.

  • Kurt Hansen Science Scholarships

International students who plan to pursue a career in science education can sign up for this Bayer-funded scholarship. The funding provided can be a study project, Internship, summer semester, preparation and supplemented programs, as well as training of science lecturers.

University scholarships

Like other countries, some of Germany’s top universities also offer scholarships. Here are a few examples…

  • Frankfurt School of Finance and Management Doctoral Tuition Waivers (Discounted tuition fees)

Frankfurt provides 10 pieces of tuition for doctoral students who grant the English language program in Finance, accounting, Mathematics and business Administration.

  • RWTH Aachen University Scholarships

The university entered the 100 major Times Higher Education Reputation Rankings and was very generous in providing scholarships. There are funding opportunities for international and domestic students.

  • The FRIAS Cofund Fellowship Programme for international researchers

Well known for the excellence of its research, the University of Freiburg offers a number of scholarships for international students who sign up for research programmes. Scholarships are usually announced during summer.

  • DRD Scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africa

Master students achievers from Sub-Saharan Africa countries can register for this scholarship by collecting proposals for research plans for full-time lectures in Germany.
